Grantee Press Release Resources

Many new grant recipients choose to publicize their awards from The Kresge Foundation. If your organization plans to issue a press release, the bulleted information below may be helpful. Please feel free to use the text verbatim or modify it as needed for your purposes.

Due to the high volume of publications we receive, we ask not to be included in your permanent mailing list.

  • The Kresge Foundation is a national, private foundation that seeks to influence the quality of life for future generations by creating access and opportunity in underserved communities, improving the health of low-income people, supporting artistic expression, assisting in the revitalization of Detroit, and advancing methods for dealing with global climate change.
  • Kresge’s nine values serve as the centerpiece of its grantmaking, focusing its decision-making and reflecting its strategic priorities.
  • The foundation’s work is focused in six fields of interest: health, the environment, arts and culture, education, human services and community development.
  • The foundation has three programs – the Health Program, the Environment Program, and the Detroit Program, which is the foundation’s primary community development effort.
  • The Health Program seeks to influence and assist in the creation of healthy living environments for disadvantaged populations by working to improve the natural, built and social aspects of their communities.
  • The Environment Program works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the built environment, accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies, and develop strategies for helping society adapt to the anticipated, negative impacts of climate change.
  • The Detroit Program is a comprehensive, community-development effort to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding area.
  • In 2009, the foundation awarded 404 grants and paid out $167 million.
