MDC manages Achieving the Dream, a national initiative designed to increase community-college student success, particularly among low-income and minority students. The funding supports the transition of the Achieving the Dream Program into a separate nonprofit organization, and help to add another seven additional Michigan colleges to the program.

Separate grants allow community colleges in Maine, Los Angeles and the District of Columbia to participate in Achieving the Dream.
